Students learn beginning technique, establish practicing habits, learn to set and attain musical goals, and work toward a performance at the end of the semester. Classes meet once each week for 30 minutes. This is meant to set a solid foundation of violin playing before beginning private lessons.

Orff Percussion Classes (6-10)

Orff Percussion Classes are classes designed for students age 6-10, and students will use the percussion instruments to learn rhythm, melody and notation, and develop ensemble playing skills. This class is the next in progression up from our Little Music Makers Classes!

Tuition is $225 for a 15-week session.

Guitar Ensemble

Guitar ensemble is a performing group comprised of students of all/various grade levels. Students who are interested in learning to play guitar, experience music together, make close friends, and build self-confidence are welcome to join this class. The technical instructional emphasis is on appropriate playing position, left and right hand technique, music reading skills, ensemble playing, and rehearsal skills. The course will include a variety of musical repertoire.

Studio Class

These monthly or bi-monthly classes are offered as a supplement to private lesson study with your studio teacher. The students of the studio meet for a group class that can be structured to develop skills like performing, ensemble playing, theory, technique, master classes participation, and other skill-building in a group setting outside of the weekly private-lesson regimen.

Jazz Combo

A small jazz ensemble that will be offered this Fall and led by Dr. Joseph Butts, a new addition to the Conservatory Faculty. Interested students should have some prior lesson experience on their instruments and be prepared to play an audition for admission to the class.

Chamber Music

Chamber groups for any musical style can be formed upon request and upon approval of the faculty member assigned to coach each group.  Auditions will be required. Players at all levels are welcome and participants will be assigned to chamber music groups appropriate to their level.

Theory Class

These 30-minute group classes provide age-appropriate instruction in the language and fundamentals of music. Students will become familiar with music symbols, terminology, scales, chord structures, harmony, and forms through age-appropriate activities and exercises.
