Friends of the Conservatory
Why Should I Give?
The Acadiana Symphony and Conservatory of Music is a place where students can come to begin the incredible journey of learning music. But this invaluable experience often costs more than families are able to pay. To provide music learning opportunities for our youth, we rely on the continued support of people who value the role of the arts education in our lives. Learning music opens doors to creative thinking and self-expression. Students who study music develop valuable life skills like self-discipline, patience, perseverance, maturity, and critical thinking skills.
Who Benefits?
Scholarship donations make lessons possible for so many deserving and talented students. This past May, among the many motivated students who made their way to our auditions, we heard one particular audition that made a lasting and special impression on our hearts. She was a high school student, auditioning for a scholarship to participate in the Youth Orchestra. From the first few notes she played, we found ourselves captivated by the passion and heart which resonated from her cello. When asked about whether she had ever studied privately, she very politely and very humbly said that lessons weren't something her family could afford. We approached her mother regarding the possibility of her taking lessons at the Conservatory through our scholarship program. The mother burst into tears. "Music is all she's got," she explained to us. "She needs something right now. High school has been difficult for her. She has not had an easy life." It became quite clear to us that we had an opportunity to impact someone's life that day - to literally open a door of possibility for someone, and take a chance in making a lasting impression. Your contributions allow us to impact lives. Thank you.
How Can I Give?
By giving a tax-deductible gift to the ASO Conservatory of Music, you make music lessons and classes possible for students who might not otherwise have the opportunities. Upon completing a scholarship application and audition, qualified students can be awarded scholarship money to apply toward their tuition at the Conservatory. Awards are distributed by the scholarship panel, and are decided based on merit and financial need. Almost 30% of Conservatory students receive some type of financial assistance toward their tuition. Although the need usually exceeds what we are able to supply, we do our bet to provide help for families who need it. You can do your part to help too!
