Arts for the Youth of Acadiana
The primary focus of this program is to teach life lessons through music education to children who would not otherwise have access to such opportunities. Enhancement of academic skills, team work, social development and self discipline are primarily goals of this initiative thus contributing to the future success of the participants. The ASO has partnered with the Boys and Girls Club Granberry unit to provide weekly music education to participants. These children also get to perform with the ASO at events such as the holiday concert. Other participating units are the Jackie, Iberia and Abbeville units.
Students take private lessons in voice, piano and guitar, receive theory and Orff instruction, and have formed the foundation for the Conservatory Chorus. The Conservatory Chorus will be featured this spring at several fundraisers for the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra and Conservatory of Music including ZooBeats and Festival Eggstrordinaire. The Boys and Girls club students will also be featured on stage with the symphony at the Link Up concert on March 2, 2012.
