The Acadiana Symphony Orchestra reaches over 2000 children ages 4-18 from Lafayette and the surrounding parishes of Acadiana.
Taryn Marceaux, Education Director, has developed educational activities that are directly connected to the performances of the ASO's concert season. These activities give local students as well as other children in the community an opportunity to learn and experience music in an informative, accessible and entertaining way that nurtures their interests in arts and culture.
Ms. Marceaux and Maestro Smolij have collaborated in developing a educational concert series, building lesson plans for the participating classrooms to accompany the free education concerts. ASO has performed for nearly 10,000 students in the last year! Students were prepared in their classrooms by their teachers, and their educational experience culminated in high quality performances! Students have seen professional acrobats accompanied by Romantic classics. They have heard music from across the world with Gao Hong, Chinese pipa player, and most recently listened to The Planets by Gustav Holst. In March 2012, the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra, with the help of Kraft & Gatz, AT&T, Fugro Chance, The Moody Foundation, Atmos Energy and The New Life Foundation, has made it possible for more than 2000 students to have the opportunity to participate in Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute's music educational program Link-Up at no cost. In addition to free educational concerts, the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra strives to reach the students of the Acadian community through programs like HelloASO and Acadiana Sings as well as through our Satellite Programs.
