Summer Arts Camps These camps will be an exploration of arts, and include classes on world music, art, and drama. The camps will be for ages 5-13, and will be June 14-25 and July 19-30, from 8:00 -12:00 daily. More information to come. Contact for more details or registration or Click HERE for more information.

Private Instruction

Private lessons in strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, piano, organ, voice (singing), NEW! Cajun Fiddle and Accordion, and guitar. Fees include 15 weeks of lessons for the school year and 8 weeks of the lessons for the Summer semester and monthly group classes. Schedules are arranged on a first-come, first-served basis. Private instruction tuition fees are listed in the following chart.

Theory Class

These 30-minute group classes provide age-appropriate instruction in the language and fundamentals of music. Students will become familiar with music symbols, terminology, scales, chord structures, harmony, and forms through age-appropriate activities and exercises. We also offer a College Preparatory Theory Class for those students interested in studying music at a college level.

Musikgarten

Early Childhood Music Classes. These are classes for children ages 18 months-5 years. They are music and movement classes, and use a family music-making experience to build a foundation for music learning. Classes include singing, dancing, chanting simple tunes and nursery rhymes, simple rhythms and solfa singing, and playing of simple instruments. Classes are structured to create a foundation of musical knowledge and experience to expand upon in private lessons.

Musical Theater & Opera Workshop

This class is for intermediate and advanced voice students who want to explore literature of classical and modern Musical Theater & Opera. Students will learn to display scenes from various musicals and operettas. Students will have the opportunity to perform in recitals and other performances around Acadiana. Students will not only learn solo repertoire but they will also learn to perform in duos, trios, quartets and large ensembles.

Musical Theatre & Opera Workshop will be offered on Tuesdays from 3:00-3:45 p.m. for Summer 2009.

Class Voice

This class offers singing lessons for students ages 9-12. There is a maximum of 8 students per class to promote individual and group participation. Objectives include learning beginning vocal technique (tone, posture, and breathing), solfege and rhythm reading, and basic piano skills. This class is a prerequisite to Private Voice lessons for students ages 9-12.

Beginner Group Guitar

A great start for aspiring guitarists ages 6 to 9. The small group setting is a kid-friendly motivator. Practicing, reaching musical goals, and completion of special assignments earn points towards "cool stuff." Classes meet once each week for 30 minutes. Fee includes a monthly group class.

Introduction to Piano (Ages 4-5)

Intro to Piano is a fun class designed for beginners age 3-5, and students will use the piano to learn musical ideas like rhythm, melody and notation. This class will introduce several "beginner" piano songs to the students to practice and perform at the end of the session!

Classes will meet in two groups:

Group A - Monday and Wednesday 10:00-10:30am
Group B - Tuesday and Thursday 10:00-10:30am

Group Cajun Fiddle Class

The Acadiana Symphony Orchestra is now offering a Cajun Fiddle Master Class Series, with our newest addition to The Conservatory Faculty, Daniel Gale. Daniel is an accomplished teacher and performer, in both the Classical and Cajun genres. He will be teaching classes with Guest Artist Teachers Mitch Reed, David Greely, and Al Berard on Thursday nights at 6:00PM at the ASO Conservatory. Please come by or call the Conservatory at 232-4277 ext. 2 for details! Open to students of all ages and abilities. Come and join us for a truly rare fiddling experience.
