The Acadiana Symphony Orchestra and Conservatory of Music is proud to welcome to its management staff,Taryn Marceaux. Ms Marceaux recently joined the staff as the Director of Education. The Conservatory of Music was established to educate and form the musical minds of all ages. Since then, the Conservatory has grown to offer private music instruction in all instruments including voice, strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, guitar, piano and Suzuki Instruction in violin, viola, cello and flute. Also offered are many group instruction classes such as Mommy Sing with Me, Young Voices Class, Beginning Group Guitar, Intro to Piano and Music Theory. The Conservatory is operated by the Director of Education and faculty is made up of ULL graduating students, musicians of the ASO, and local music teachers. A native of Abbeville, Taryn Marceaux is an active pianist and music educator. She attended the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts in Natchitoches, Louisiana, and later enrolled in McNeese State University’s Early Admission program, where she received her bachelor’s degree in music with a concentration in Piano Pedagogy in 2006. She then continued her music studies at UL Lafayette, and earned a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance Pedagogy in December of 2008, having completed her performance and pedagogy studies with Dr. Susanna Garcia and Dr. Chan-Kiat Lim. Her previous piano and pedagogy teachers include Dr. Fred Sahlmann and Dr. Christy Vogt of McNeese State University. Taryn has been an active member of Music Teachers’ National Association, (MTNA), Louisiana Music Teachers Association, (LMTA), Lafayette Piano Teachers’ Association, and (LPTA) and was a founding member and Vice-President of McNeese State University’s Delta Chi chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon, International Professional Music Fraternity. She is a certified Kodaly teacher, and has specialized training in early childhood music education. She teaches Musikgarten classes and piano lessons at the Conservatory and in surrounding rural communities. She adjudicates at piano festivals throughout Louisiana, and has experience teaching piano privately and in groups, at elementary through advanced levels. She was a piano instructor at Our Lady of Fatima School in Lafayette for two years, and has taught class piano and applied lessons at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Since its’ beginning, the mission of the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra and Conservatory still stands strong in Acadiana. ASO is dedicated to present the highest quality symphonic performances of diverse repertoire to a broad audience while providing young musicians with a forum for artistic expression and learning. As the new Director of Education, Taryn aims to stimulate new growth and increase awareness of the Conservatory and its involvement within the Lafayette community. She plans to showcase the talented faculty of the Conservatory and the many opportunities it offers for students. She endeavors to capitalize on the Conservatory’s ability to foster relationships that help expose students to the wonderful world of music.
